Data Center

Power

Main Power

FutureQuest is located in what some consider a power safe haven in the center of Orlando, Florida. The Orlando Regional Medical Center is less than a quarter mile South of FutureQuest's Data Center, placing FutureQuest, Inc. well within their hospital grid. This helps to guarantee first priority power services from OUC (Orlando Utility Company), the main supplier of Orlando's power.

In addition to the regional medical center, OUC has one of its power sub-stations about 100 yards to the East of the building and to top it off OUC itself sits right across the street on the North side of the building! FutureQuest, Inc. is literally surrounded by power!

For added protection, the power is fed to FutureQuest's Data Center through underground wiring for lightning protection. Once the power reaches our suite it goes through our transfer switch and into the Mitsubishi 75kVA (60,000 watts!) UPS system where it is cleansed and then sent to the equipment FutureQuest uses to deliver the web sites it proudly hosts.

BackUp Power

Just in case something were to happen that prevented OUC from providing power to the FutureQuest Data Center, a full backup and power cleansing system has been put into place.

FutureQuest, Inc. is the proud owner of a KatoLight, 375kVA (300,000 watts!) turbo-charged generator which includes a custom 440-gallon double-walled diesel fuel tank!

The generator is capable of powering the FutureQuest Data Center for at least 7 days straight, if not refueled. However, FutureQuest's generator has the ability to run indefinitely by being capable of being refueled while it is in operation!

In addition to the Katolight Generator FutureQuest has installed a Mitsubishi 75kVA (60,000 watts!) UPS System with battery cabinet! The Mitsubishi 75kVA is capable of powering FutureQuest's Data Center up to 36 hours straight! However, its primary purpose is to cleanse the daily power that feeds the Data Center and to transfer the load to the Generator if a power failure were to occur.

The image above shows the FutureQuest Mitsubishi UPS System & breakers, with the battery cabinet & breakers open.

Upon power failure, it would take approximately 10 seconds for the generator to power up and take over. Though ten seconds is not a lot of time, it is enough time for servers to go offline if they do not have power. It is during this ten second period that the UPS becomes a vital piece of the puzzle that ensures your web site is online at all times. The UPS will immediately notice a power outage and begin providing power to the servers while waiting for the generator to take over.

The image above shows the inside of the FutureQuest Power room. This room houses two transformers (affectionately called "The Hummers"), the automatic generator transfer switch, and the multiple breaker boxes which power the data center.

The image above shows the FutureQuest KatoLight Generator as seen from the covered outdoors break area. In the event of a power outage the generator would automatically be switched on to begin generating power.

The above photo shows the chase run up the outside of the building from FutureQuest's Generator to FutureQuest's Power Room.

FutureQuest's Power system is built to supply uninterrupted power, even if a total power outage occurs. Conditioned UPS Power feeds the entire Data Center, which will continue to operate even if the OUC power fails.

Power is simply not a problem!
